5th Gen 4Runner Baseplate Installation

This is the step-by-step installation guide for the baseplate of the 5th Generation Toyota 4Runner. It specifically addresses the 4Runner models without a 3rd row.

Step 1: Begin by removing the plastic trim piece. Pull on the trim from the sides, give it a firm tug, and the entire piece should come off.

Step 2: Take out the two D-ring tie down points and detach the carpeted trim piece.

Step 3: You should either remove the carpet or fold it in half. Do the same with the foam piece to gain better access to the plastic molding that needs trimming. At this stage, you can take off the last two D-rings on the plastic trim on both the left and right sides.

Step 4: ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, trim the circled plastic trim to accommodate our mounting bracket. Use a razor blade, Dremel, or oscillating tool to remove approximately 2 inches of trim.

Step 5: Now, fold the foam pad and carpet back down, and loosely install the brackets. Reinstall the factory D-rings and use the provided hardware to secure the D-rings back into the vehicle. (The hardware consists of the black 18mm M6 bolts with allen heads.) The brackets are specific to each side, with the outside of the curve facing the rear of the vehicle.

Passenger Side:

Driver Side: *This vehicle has an aftermarket subwoofer which removes the D-ring Tie down.

Step 6: You will loosely position the baseplate into the truck. Use the provided hardware to attach the baseplate to the brackets we recently installed. Secure the baseplate with one bolt and one washer on both the driver and passenger sides. Refer to the example below to identify the correct bolt hole, as the non-recessed hole is designated for mounting the Nomadik drawer system. Keep these brackets loose for now.

Step 7: Attach the rear of the baseplate to the factory tie-down points. You might need a long screwdriver to position the baseplate correctly. Once positioned, use the provided bolt and washer to secure the baseplate. After both sides are loosely bolted, you can fully tighten them.

ree

Step 8: Completely secure the brackets and bolts that connect the baseplate to the brackets. Now, the baseplate installation is complete. For attaching items such as a fridge slide or storage system, I strongly suggest using T-nuts to fasten them to the baseplate. You can find T-nuts HERE. The rear attachment bolts don’t seem to be lining up…

Sorry it took a second to get back to you, were you able to get this lined up? I would first verify that the front lip of the baseplate (Side closes to the rear hatch) is flush with the plastic trim. I'm guessing that it could potentially be slightly cockeyed. If it is, try removing the front brackets, and then seeing if the rear holes line up. If it doesn't, shoot me an email and I'll have you pull some measurments and cut you a new baseplate.
